MONEY AND WATER

You know what is one of the dirtiest things in the world? Money. Yeah! This reminds me of one of my favorite movies, the 'Cabaret':

Literally and figuratively money is the dirties thing in the world.

I wash my hands (if I can) every time I touch money. Although I do think it's very important to conserve water and to conserve the Earth's fresh water supply

because there is very little of it and very few people today have the luxury of drinking clean water and using clean water to wash, cook and clean themselves. And if we have it, let's not waste it, but let's use it, for God's sake!

It is important to know that in Istanbul,

for example, it is not recommended to drink tap water and in many other cities in Turkey. In fact, everyone I know incloding us are drinking bottled water at home, we only use tap water for cooking and cleaning purposes. However, a lot of bottled water, unfortunately, comes with a lot of plastic...that's a big heartbreak for me, all those plastic cans and bottles...and all the paper cans are coated with something plastic like...so you know?

What about all the plastic?

https://bianet.org/haber/turkey-s-plastic-waste-import-increased-by-173-times-in-15-years-224543

And everyone drinks bottled water not because it tastes better, but because it's so clean it's healthy.

If someone is dirty, let them take a bath, for God's sake...let's not wait to stink. If we have water and the cheapest soap it's good,

because we can't afford anything more expensive, and let's brush our teeth because the cheapest toothpaste is good

(although nowadays toothpaste is slowly reaching the prices of the stars, who knows why? What's become so expensive?)

It's still better to take the ‘effort’ (2 minutes) to brush twice a day (and not keep running water from the tap!) than to have your teeth so bad that they fall out. The dentist is really fucking expensive and one, how you're going to look, two, how you're going to eat and if you can't eat properly your digestion is going to be really bad, not to mention being around people, you have bad breath...so it's not going to be pleasant for others either.

So brushing your teeth and regular cleaning (I mean washing your face and hands, showering at least once a day, washing your hair - well I guess everyone can see and feel how regularly this is necessary, men should brush their hair, unless you can keep your facial hair really well groomed, because it's a bacteria nest.... and not waste water doing it all! You soap yourself up, then wash it off and don't run the water during the soap)

And then wash the clothes. It's not like wearing a sock for days. One day, one sock...minimum...maybe more in the summer, but avoid plastic if you can, because it just gets all buttoned up between your toes.

And if you already have water and you can clean yourself, wash clothes, do the dishes at home and keep your house clean, you don't have to splash perfume and cologne on yourself by the litre, because sometimes it just makes things worse, especially if you're trying to cover up old stink, because it just mixes with the stink and it's even more nauseating... Oh nooooooo!  Let's clean it properly. Let's put on freshly laundered clothes. Wash the dishes after use, don't dry dirt on them, and don't eat from dirty dishes.

Now that's a luxury these days. If you have water at home (e.g. you can turn on the tap and clean water comes out any time), you're one of the richest people in the world. You have a luxury that many people don't have. And if you are so rich, don't waste it, use it well! And water supplies are going down.

‘However, although in 2010, the United Nations General Assembly formally recognized the human right to clean water and sanitation, more than 2 billion people on the planet still lack access to safe, clean, drinkable water.’ ( you can read more details in here: https://www.developmentaid.org/news-stream/post/188625/access-to-clean-water)

Now back to money and why wash your hands if you're going to touch money? You can't imagine the places where that piece of paper you're holding turns up...and if you smell it (but I don't recommend it) it smells awful. Now that's how literally dirty the money is.

But how is money dirty in the figurative sense? Actually, it's not the piece of paper or metal coin itself that's at play here...

but the concept of money as what it means to people. And what does money mean to people today? Everything. And what does money do to people? Well, very gross things. Money can change people a lot, even if you have it and even if you don't.

I don't have much money, but I always have enough. I live quite frugally, I don't waste and I don't spend on things I don't have to. But at one point in my life I had a period where I spent a lot of money in a very short period of time (last summer) because I didn't have any clothes (one time when I was really not well psychologically I threw almost everything away) and not only clothes, but kitchen equipment and fridge and stove...etc...so then I had to buy all that again. I regret throwing it all away now, but that's it, I can't change that.

I'm over it now and I don't think about it anymore and especially not what if.... If I hadn't done what I did. And I don't feel sad about it and I don't beat myself up about it. I have moved on. Now I have a lot again, more than I need. So I spend only on what I judge to be necessary or very very rarely, even on little things that just please me or are delicious 😊 (like a piece of chocolate or a cookie or a new notebook or a nice pen or small items from the second hand market)

Tudjátok mi az egyik legmocskosabb dolog a világon?  A pénz. Ja!

Mi lesz a rengeteg műanyaggal?

Most megint sok mindenem van, több is a kelletténél.

COFFEE / TEA

Magyarul lentebb olvashatjátok a bejegyzésemet.

For me the first thing in the morning after the bathroom, coffee with water and some bisquites.

I usually have coffee three times a day.

Here in Turkey there are many different coffees to have in your home.

Many people think instant coffee is bad for the body so they don't drink it. Well, I don't know, but we have been drinking it at home for quite a long time and we haven't experienced any major health problems. In fact, we prefer it because it's easy to make, you just have to find the right amount to put in your cup. We always drink coffee with milk because it makes it taste so nice and smooth.

Since we drink most of our coffee (and tea) without sugar, it's the milk that softens that bitter taste we don't like.

So you don't have to buy only the most famous instant coffee, because it's almost the most expensive. There are cheap and perfectly good varieties here.

Of course, you can get coffee that can be brewed in a coffee machine,

...but it's not as coarsely ground as in Europe, so I don't recommend that, but rather brewed in a French press or a big American coffee machine, otherwise you'll get a coffee full of grounds that are not so good. Of course, there are also capsule coffees for those who want something more exclusive for home use, and obviously you have to buy a machine for that.

And of course the most popular type of coffee here is Turkish coffee, which is almost a ritual to drink and prepare.

Although it is very easy to make once you have learned how. You need a special small coffee pot and you can buy beautiful coffee cups especially for this type of coffee, because it will be a strong, press-like coffee. They don't really add milk to it (although I've seen some) but you can add sugar to make it a little sweeter. Serving this at home always brings a special joy to those who consume it. It shows our appreciation for our guests and those at home. A small glass of water is added to the coffee and often cay is served after the coffee as part of the hospitality.

It's special, even if it's just an everyday thing you make at home for your loved ones. Otherwise, you can buy electric coffee machines, directly for Turkish coffee brewing. We usually drink this type of coffee in the afternoon and mostly on weekends. And it always comes with a small glass of water and something sweet. Turkis delight or small chocolates or small cookies (kurabiye in Turkish).

Tea drinking is also an integral part of Turkish culture. You might think, seeing that everyone drinks tea at least five times a day, that it is something indigenous here. But, no!

Tea was imported from Japan in the late 18th century...

....but people didn't like it so much then, and it only became hugely popular later.

In 1924, in Rize,a large city on the Black Sea, someone brought a suitcase full of tea grass and planted it. It is still the place where the largest tea plantations are located. Yet it was only after 1955 that tea spread throughout the country and produced enough to meet the needs of the whole country.

  https://www.altunsucay.com.tr/blog/rize-cayi-5

The most popular tea variety is black tea. It is usually available in large packets (half a kilo, 1 kilo or a small bag) in all shops, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Of course, there is a very wide variety of other teas.

They make tea from many different plants, flowers and fruits. Sometimes they just go out into the garden or the park and pluck some of this or that from a bush or tree or the quail, dry it and there you have it, a health or medicinal tea blend.

Such as rosehip, bay leaf (which is everywhere) and olive leaves etc. (I would like to dedicate a separate chapter to olive, because I think it is worth a post), which is also a very common tree in Turkey. But they are also used to make other things, such as spices and soaps, perfumes, cosmetics and even for artistic creations, using the leaves of the leaves or the dried plants.

Black tea is also very useful in summer. In the sweltering heat, coffee seems like too much (unless it's iced coffee 😊 which is my favourite with vanilla ice cream) but because we feel tired all the time because of the heat and humidity (which makes it feel even hotter) we need some caffeine and black tea is great for that.

And one of my favourite song from Alessandro Mahmoud:

It doesn't raise your pulse too harshly, like coffee does, but it's nice and gradual and you can sit down with a cup of tea. Of course, it's not just when it's hot here, it's part of everyone's daily routine.  They drink one after the other, about uncountable. But the trouble is when they load it up with sugar.

And it's no secret that there are a lot of diabetics here. In winter and in summer they drink some kind of tea that has a yellow colour, very yellow, unnaturally yellow, so it's not a tea, it's a powder, but they love that too. But you can also ask for herbal tea if you don't like black tea if someone does not like black tea or is ill. The tea, (cay here) is available in small cups, typical Turkish cay cups, from the simplest to the most elegant.

When I moved here in 2013, one cay was 1 TL and 1 EUR 2 TL. Now one cay, in the cheaper places, is 20 TL and 1 EUR 43 TL. Now it's no coincidence that the cafes and tea shops are almost empty. One after the other closes, then the funny thing is that after a few months they reopen there is another one opening in their place. People prefer to have tea and coffee at home. I note in parentheses that a loaf of bread used to be 1 TL and now it's 14 TL in the shop.

A török kultúrának szorosan része a teázási szokás is.

Azóta is ezen a helyen találhatóak a legnagyobb tea ültetvények.

A legkedveltebb tea fajta, a fekete tea.

KINDNESS IS THE NEW COOL

Úgy gondoltam mivel végülis magyar vagyok😊 habár Isztambulban élek.

A szöveges részét a bejegyzéseimnek megosztom magyarul is az angol bejegyzés végén, hogy a barátaim, a családom, az ismerőseim is olvashassák. Egyszerűen fordÍtó nélkül.

I figured since I'm Hungarian after all 😊 I'll share the text part of my posts in Hungarian at the end of the English post, so my friends, family and acquaintances can read it too. Simply without translation.

I usually don't really care what other people think about me

but what those who are important to me 💖think about me is quite interesting and it can make me embarrassed. I can also get embarrassed if people stare at me unjustifiably in the street or make different faces at me, but then I just pretend I don't see them. I have an excellent way of doing this, because I'm nearsighted I can see a little bit 💥less of the world without my glasses (but then I don't want to see the world in cases like this) so I just put on one of my fucking good sunglasses (which are not dipotripsy) and that's it.

I can see as much as I need to to get around safely and I don't care about the rest and if something or someone does I put on my regular dipotrips and I can see.

Otherwise I am not a talkative type, but I will say what I think if I have to and as I think it. I usually say what I think, honestly, but I don't like to be impolite and I don't say everything I think. But I don't think I have to. There are some things you don't have to say all the time to know.

As a side note, it's that time of the year when it's warmer outside than it is inside. Now that's a good time to catch a cold. You go outside because you're dressed for winter (you still have to heat the house), but outside your clothes are rotting on you, it's so hot...but suddenly it gets a cold...pay attention...if you can...if you can't, sweat it out and hope you can make it through the transition from winter to spring without getting sick.

Sorry to talk so much about myself, but that's part of the things. So a bit more about me 😊 I don't like to be rude, but I don't like rudeness either. However you can't always be polite...but you can try 😊

There are some basic and minimal things that we can do for each other to make things a little bit 💥 more pleasant. For example, saying hello...

...or goodbye, thanking things or apologising or dodging people on the street carrying bags or pushing children or using sticks etc. to give way to them and not having to go around them for half an hour...so minimal politeness.

Magyarul

LIFE AFTER DEATH

Sometimes, when someone close to me died,

I wondered how life didn't stop...or the earth didn't stop spinning...because I felt then that something should stop now, something that was very big, because a wonderful person died and it was very shocking. But nothing stopped. Time went on, life went on...

NOTHING CHANGED...only something inside me stopped for a moment...

Just like when Silo, our Master died. I remember the day when a very dear friend called me and said "Silo is gone"...I felt like I couldn't breathe for a moment, everything went stiff...I didn't know what to say, I didn't understand what does it really mean...but then I realized that it meant he was dead. And then I felt like it was all over. There is no hope anymore.

I felt something had become empty, that nothing made sense anymore. For days this shock and this feeling of emptiness lasted....but then bit by bit it has changed. And today I don't even feel he's gone, he's always here. I don't feel that he is not with us anymore, just because he never shows up. So for me Silo is here, for me he is present and supporting me and has something to "say" and "give" when I turn to him or to his words in his writings or on his videos. For me he has not disappeared, he has not gone anywhere.

I would like to recall his words about his certainty about death:

"So, in accordance with what I have said, I declare here before everyone that I have come to believe and to experience the certainty that death does not stop the future, on the contrary, death changes the temporality of our existence and takes us to immortal transcendence. I do not impose my faith and certainty on anyone and I live with those who have different ideas about the meaning of life. But I am committed to passing on to others the message that I believe makes a person free and happy." Silo, THE MEANING OF LIFE (Mexico D.F., 10.10.1980)

Everything goes on...

There will be mornings and there will be evenings. And people will go to work and so do I. And we will eat and we will make love and we will get sick and we will get well and we will satisfy our needs and we will want to have fun, not just us who have had someone die (though it's hard to imagine anyone who hasn't experienced the death of someone close to them)...everything goes on unabated. There's a kind of "cruelty" and "indifference" to it that I can't understand, but then I realize that life can't be stoppped and that's actually something wonderful.

Life is such a powerful force that it is unstoppable. It cannot be stopped even a little bit 💥by the death of anyone or noone. And neither death can be. The body will die. And this is the fact for every single human being (for now) and everything that is born. And here I remembered a really interesting film series on Upload where man is able to choose his own afterlife by having his consciousness uploaded into a virtual world.

In every second people dies who are important to somebody and what if everything stopped... all of life would be spent standing still, and so not only the one who died would die but life itself.

So all is good! 😊

 INSPIRATION

I have some beautiful instruments at home. And I can't play any of them 😊 For now.

But I practice. I've been inspired by different people to learn to play them. My first and probably most favourite instrument is the ukulele.

I bought this in Istanbul, after I heard LP  (Laura Pergolizzi) singing several times

...and saw her playing the ukulele.

He is also someone who is not only worth hearing but also worth seeing, his style is amazingly good.

(I'm sorry but I don't know whether to use he or she when I talk about him, so I use he sometimes she, I hope I'm not hurting anyone's feelings. ) Her personality inspired me to start playing.

I just liked her, the way she dressed (at first I thought she was a man) the way she sang, the way she is with other people...

...the way she talks to her fans and the way how cool she was, ...so I liked her a lot and that was it.

My second favourite instrument, is the drum.

I guess I can't tie this to a specific event, but it was thanks to a very dear friend that I started to take it seriously and and playing it.

I have a big shaman drum with metal hoops inside...

and a small Turkish drum with rattles on the outside.

I think the one who inspired me...

... was, Ed Sheeran.

I can't explain how it happened but I love him a lot too, although he doesn't play the drums somehow he...

 inspired me.

Actually he's inspired a lot of things in my life, to pull faces...

...and to dream.....

to make thousands of selfies....

and constant sport walking (which I started long time ago, even before I got to know him)  but last year I really started to take up as a sport.

It was a regular daily workout..which I can’t practice much now, as it's cold and I'm a bit sick. Actually (I dare to say this quietly) I also sing (although  I have a very bad voice😊) but I think he inspired me to do that too and to dance ( what I always liked and did, even when washing the dishes). And then my hair.

I started to cut it very short and to wear sunglasses (although I'm nearsighted but I really like sunglasses😊 ) and that I'm writing this blog (although very few people reading it), and that I started wearing tight pants (which I really hate sometimes, especially when I’m not in my shape) ...

and that I'm wearing pink (punk 💥😎)...

...and purple (shit! I would never have worn pink 2 years ago) sports shoes and a lot of other things I can't tell...

Than I have a beautiful singing bowl,

which I got the idea to have it, from one of my spanish and hungarian couple (at that time) friends. This is more like a spiritual or ritual „instrument” but gives a wonderful high note and it’s very relaxing hearing it and makeing it.

Than, I have a little red flute..so cute

...and two rattles....
